Bordeaux Quay
Bordeaux Quay
The brief was to take an existing industrial unit on Bristol's Harbour side and transform it into a large organic food establishment where sustainability is key. Previously a nightclub, the building was stripped back to its shell and completely redesigned to bring a breath of fresh air to this noble and historic part of the city. The whole of the south elevation has been glazed to make the most of waterfront views and to maximise passive solar gain. With an exceptional U-value, the large VITRAL rooflight draws daylight deep into the heart of the building and provides natural comfort cooling for the scheme.
“VITRAL was selected due to the slender frames and opening panels of the rooflights, which were positioned on the central ridge to allow natural daylight to flood into the atrium space. The vertical light source from the roof meets the south facing source and joins to provide the entire building with natural daylight. “

The natural ventilation strategy is controlled by a Building Management System, including the regulating of integrated VITRAL vents which become virtually invisible when closed.
